Concentric sponsors freshwater pump in Zimbabwe, Africa
Through our partnership with AquAid, Concentric have funded the construction of a freshwater pump in Zimbabwe, Africa, providing clean, safe drinking water for a rural community.
We installed our water cooler at our head office in 2020, when we moved to Keele University Science & Innovation Park. With each purchase of bottled water an automatic donation is made though AquAid to The Africa Trust on our behalf.
The donations are used to build ‘Elephant Pumps’ - a modified version of an age-old Chinese rope pulley system. An Elephant Pump can easily provide up to 10,000 litres of safe drinking water per day to upwards of 300 people for decades.
The Concentric-funded water pump is located in Manicaland – a province in the northeastern highlands of Zimbabwe. The pump has been built by an experienced Africa Trust team leader, with the assistance of the local community, using more readily and locally available materials. This allows for the community to repair the pump more easily should they need to, which in turn extends the life of the pump exponentially.
